The #WCBUC Aftermath

WordCamp Bucharest 2018 was an amazing experience for us as volunteers and organizers. We really enjoyed all the talks and the buzzing in the networking areas, the Contributor Day where we had an unexpectedly large number of people joining, the After Party and the guided tour through Bucharest.

Seeing all these different people from all over the world come together, to share their knowledge and experience with WordPress, really filled our hearts with joy. We felt that all the speakers delivered on-point and interesting presentations and we were glad to see the room engage with them and ask questions.

Hopefully, everyone who attended had a lot of fun, and from the feedback we got so far, they really did!

We’d like to learn about your experience, what you liked/disliked about the event, what talks you enjoyed most, how was the after party vibe and more. Please take a few moments and share your thoughts about #wcbuc 2018!

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

I was looking for some better way to manage the content for a website around Dec 2011 during a university project, which was mainly based on a basic frontend stack. Then, one of my friends introduced me to the concept of content management systems and showed me the shiny white backend of WordPress. This intrigued me and led me to learn more about WordPress development. I have been associated with WordPress since then and later on, ended up adopting WordPress to be the core technology to base my startup on.

Hello friends! Today is all about Calin Don who will be talking about “Automating WordPress Operations with Kubernetes“. Let’s get know him a little bit better.

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

It was early 2006 when I’ve built the very first WordPress website. I was a student back then, volunteering for BEST in Timisoara and one of my first challenges was to build presentation websites for various events the NGO was organizing. I remember feeling uncomfortable with the idea of building static websites, which was not an ideal approach to such a fast moving organization. That was the moment when I took the risk and built the website using WordPress 2.0. It convinced me because of it’s easy to use interface, which has significantly sped up the development process even to a newcomer like me. A year later, I was doing it like a pro, as I was already making a living out of my WordPress skills—I co-founded a software development agency called Dream Production, where we were building mainly WordPress websites for a wide array of industries and businesses.

Hello lovely people! This is our new article in a series dedicated to our speakers. Today is all about Emanuel, who will talk about How to find peace and change the world. Let’s get to know him a bit more.

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

I think it was around 2005. Back then I had a company which developed its own CMS and I was searching for another solution I could use for my personal projects and for blogging. I tried several of them but I fell in love with WordPress on the first sight. What really “bought” me was the Codex which — back then — was just starting up but nevertheless it was light years more advanced than anything else that I’ve seen. As a designer, I finally found a CMS that I could easily integrate and that wasn’t frightening.

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

Oh, sweet memories. My first contact with WordPress was at my first job interview. I was a Joomla junior developer, and I was tricked by a friend to take a job interview on a Joomla dev position. But the interviewer changed the topic into a full WordPress Homepage to test my adaptation skills. With the help of the WordPress community and of the Codex, I’ve aced the interview.
