Get to know Vineet Talwar, speaker

This is our final article in a series dedicated to our speakers. Today is all about Vineet. At WordCamp Bucharest, he will talk about Progressive Web Apps : The future of Mobile Apps. Let’s get to know him a bit more.

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

I was looking for some better way to manage the content for a website around Dec 2011 during a university project, which was mainly based on a basic frontend stack. Then, one of my friends introduced me to the concept of content management systems and showed me the shiny white backend of WordPress. This intrigued me and led me to learn more about WordPress development. I have been associated with WordPress since then and later on, ended up adopting WordPress to be the core technology to base my startup on.

  • Why did you choose this topic for your presentation?

After struggling to communicate with various mobile app developers in one of my projects last year. I decided to look for something universal. Then, I came across progressive web apps. It opened up a whole new world for me and I decided to explore it more and work with it. In this talk, I shall be sharing my experiences with progressive web apps.

  • What will we learn from your presentation?

This talk should revolve around progressive web apps, how they are revolutionizing the mobile web, how you could be a part of this journey also, how you could build one, test one, and even publish one. How you as a WordPress site administrator can benefit from it. Moreover, the talk shall briefly discuss the CMS support, tools, plugins to achieve app-like experience in your progressive web app. The talk should also cover building a native mobile app of your WordPress website, making your website installable as an app and getting the offline availability and offline browsing support for your WordPress website. The idea of this talk is not to eliminate the native mobile apps. However, giving awareness to website administrators and small business owners to have the possibility to have their own native mobile app without having to develop a whole dedicated app.

  • What do you like to do when you’re not WordPress-ing?

If I am not WordPress-ing, you will probably find me with a mic and a GoPro at a WordCamp taking interviews for an episode of my radio show, “WP Shoutout” by FireMud FM. During my free time, I can also be spotted with a DSLR, some camera gadgets and a backpack most probably.
