Hello everyone and we really mean everyone :). Not just WordPress developers, but product people, designers, marketers, support staff, business people, everyone is welcome to take part in Contributor Day!
As you already know, WordPress is an open source project. It was and still is created with the help of contributing peers. During WordCamps, when WordPress people get together, we have a chance to give back to the open source project.
This year, we are excited to have Andrei Lupu leading a workshop about building Gutenberg blocks.
Here are a few words from Andrei:
“In the workshop, we are planning to cover the following targets:
– Tooling – If we want to build a Gutenberg block, first we need to have the proper tools and some basic knowledge about them (Crucial point, no one is left behind here).
– Blocks in WordPress – Gutenberg can be a standalone project, and its integration with WordPress could be tricky. In a plugin? A theme? A standalone file? We will decide together!
– 3 block types –Â We will have three ideas of block types to work on, and each contributor will be able to work on the desired block type. Even if there will be three teams, there is no competition, only a learning process.”
How to get ready for Contributor Day
There is no specific requirement for this workshop. Oh wait, you will need your laptop, your charger, and your favorite code editor. We’ll bring the wi-fi 🙂
But we will work with WordPress on a local environment so you will be one step in front if you come with a fresh local installation of WordPress. It doesn’t matter if it’s VVV or Local by Flywheel as long as it works and you can create a post.
