Get to know Calin Don, speaker

Hello friends! Today is all about Calin Don who will be talking about “Automating WordPress Operations with Kubernetes“. Let’s get know him a little bit better.

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

It was early 2006 when I’ve built the very first WordPress website. I was a student back then, volunteering for BEST in Timisoara and one of my first challenges was to build presentation websites for various events the NGO was organizing. I remember feeling uncomfortable with the idea of building static websites, which was not an ideal approach to such a fast moving organization. That was the moment when I took the risk and built the website using WordPress 2.0. It convinced me because of it’s easy to use interface, which has significantly sped up the development process even to a newcomer like me. A year later, I was doing it like a pro, as I was already making a living out of my WordPress skills—I co-founded a software development agency called Dream Production, where we were building mainly WordPress websites for a wide array of industries and businesses.

Get to know George Gkouvousis, speaker

Hello and welcome! Today we want to present to you our newest friend George, who will join us for WordCamp Bucharest in less than a month, talking about “Setting up the ideal web server for WordPress: from zero to hero!“.

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

I remember myself navigating through a horizontal dashboard menu with 1kb stylesheet file. Tested a few CMS and ended up with WordPress, which fit perfect, a project’s needs.
That was it. Could see it coming, overriding Joomla and other popular ones, ending up today in powering 30% of the internet!

  • Why did you choose this topic for your presentation?

I felt like explaining the key points of having a fast WordPress web server that runs WordPress CMS, because it used to be a pain for me as well, during my first years. Been there, done that, so I felt like sharing it.

  • What will we learn from your presentation?

You will be able to identify the bigger pains of a WordPress website when it comes to performance and will learn how to apply extra performance boost at your WordPress web server.

  • What do you like to do when you’re not WordPress-ing?

Helping others WordPress-ing 🙂

  • Few words for the WordPress Bucharest community

Get to know Ivana Ćirković, speaker

Hello, WordPressers 🙂 Meet Ivana, who will start WordCamp Bucharest with her awesome talk about What’s your story?“.  Let’s get to know her a bit more.

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

Let me see.. it was around 2014/2015 that I began transferring all my websites from Joomla to WordPress. Only because Joomla became outdated and WordPress exploded in all the positive ways and started to make much more sense for me to use it. Pretty soon, I got familiar with the platform and began to love it, to learn from the content side of it as much as I can and started teaching others, and the rest is – as they say – a history 🙂

Get to know Aleksandar Savkovic, speaker

Hello lovely people! This is our third article in a series dedicated to our speakers. Today is all about Aleks, who has a really interesting WordPress journey.

At WordCamp Bucharest, he will talk about Agile habits not frameworks. Let’s get to know him a bit more.

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

As a matter of fact, this is the most interesting part of my WordPress journey. I was a construction site supervisor for 13-14 years and I owned a company for interior design. However, during the World financial crisis, I needed to shut that business down and computers were always my hobby from Spectrum 48K. I decided to enroll for some course and I decided to learn HTML, CSS and WordPress theme development which was apparently the great choice 🙂

Get to know Andrey Savchenko, speaker

Hello and welcome to our second article in a series dedicated to our speakers. Today we are happy to present you Andrey Savchenko ( or Rarst as he’s called by his friends 🙂 ) who will talk to us about how WordPress breaks time (and how to fix it).

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

I have started with WordPress ten years ago for my Rarst.net blog. It began as a freeware review site and these days it’s more of a personal blog.

Later I built up a reputation for WP development at WordPress Stack Exchange. Which led me to leave my day job and become a WordPress contractor.

  • Why did you choose this topic for your presentation?

Date/Time in the core was one of those developer’s nightmares for me. You pull on a string of something looking not right and watch in horror as the whole codebase unravels.

Over years I had spent a lot of time to understand, write up, and code around the problems with the component. So I had great material for a good, scary, entertaining, and informative talk.

  • What will we learn from your presentation?

How WordPress Date/Time implementation is alien from the entirety of the tech world. And how to cope with it in practical ways.

  • What do you like to do when you’re not WordPress-ing?

Read science fiction. Work to keep my bachelor pad presentable. And fridge filled with something edible and healthy.

  • Few words for the WordPress Bucharest community

Come to the WordCamp. Have fun. Take naps. Eat your vegetables. Don’t trust WordPress core code.

Want to meet Rarst? Get your ticket now and meet us on October 27 – 28th.

This is our first article in a series dedicated to our speakers. Today is all about Mitko. He started working with WordPress in 2010, is a Codeable expert and founder of webpigment.com.

At WordCamp Bucharest, he will talk about “AJAX-ing your ( Woocommerce ) website”. Let’s get to know him a bit more.

  • When and how did you start working with WordPress?

I started working with WordPress almost 10 years ago, I was out of a job and started looking for some freelance gigs. Using the most popular freelancer methodology ( First come, first served ) I got a project ( keep in mind that this was 10 years ago ) about adjusting the search functionality of a website, so it will show the products in the search result page. So because of that gig, I become familiar with WordPress and since then I’m working with it on daily basis.
