Hello friends! Today we are excited to present to you Andrei Lupu, who will take us “Before and Beyond Gutenberg” on October 27th. Let’s get to know him a bit more.
- When and how did you start working with WordPress?
Oh, sweet memories. My first contact with WordPress was at my first job interview. I was a Joomla junior developer, and I was tricked by a friend to take a job interview on a Joomla dev position. But the interviewer changed the topic into a full WordPress Homepage to test my adaptation skills. With the help of the WordPress community and of the Codex, I’ve aced the interview.
- Why did you choose this topic for your presentation?
I’ve been watching the Gutenberg project even before WordCamp Paris when the plugin was launched, and I was impressed with the idea from the start. I love when modern practices are being put at work, and Gutenberg does this in a big way (React JS, webpack, package management with Lerna, a development workflow with Docker, E2E testing with jest and many others). But when such a big project comes with so many different paradigms from what we are used too, there will be a need for tutorials, presentations, and workshops to help people accommodate it.
- What will we learn from your presentation?
My primary target is to reveal the fact that the source of our content is the same (Gutenberg or not), we are just being served a different approach in its representation, a better method in my opinion. I will try to do the above while presenting a few examples of how we did things in the past, and how we can do the same ones in Gutenberg.
- What do you like to do when you’re not WordPress-ing?
Mainly, when I’m not WordPress-ing, I’m still dev-ing, but I understand that this is not the question :D.
When I’m not at my laptop, I do like to experiment in the kitchen; cooking helps me clear my mind and reset my thoughts. Also, driving my car in the night when the streets are empty has the same therapeutic effect for me, not sure why.
Football(soccer); I do like to play football with my friends but also other sports like tennis, swimming, snowboard, and eSports. You may say that this isn’t a real sport but a full night of LOL or FIFA with a bunch of witty friends could be fun.
- Few words for the WordPress Bucharest community
I hope that everyone will enjoy this event and embrace it because it’s a rare opportunity to meet with people that share the same passions. This way, I’m sure that we’ll build a better WordCamp every year and have a better event for ourselves. See you soon! Cheers.
